"Sustaining and Advancing Our Community thru Service”
Wednesday, August 19th, the Bonner Center for Civic and Community Engagement will be hosting their first annual Servathon “Sustaining and Advancing Our Community thru Service” to benefit the center. This year, the goal is to raise $5,000, all of which will be used for funding two Democracy Fellow positions that will help the center advance its mission of connecting the college and non-profit organizations. We are asking each Bonner Scholar to fundraise $100. The campus community and other alumni may register to sponsor a Bonner Scholar. The Servathon will begin at 8:30, and the service activities will begin at 9:00am.
This year, there will be three service sites where Bonner Community Scholars will be serving:
· The Delaware and Raritan Canal in the Trenton area: the importance of open space for the community has been well documented in articles and reports. In this particular area, the open space exists however, it is currently covered with trash. TCNJ Bonner Center has adopted the Trenton Greenway area and a section of the nearby D&R canal as a site. Your hours of service will impact this area.
· Visitation Home in Hamilton Township: this home has been created for adults who have development disabilities. This team will be assisting staff run activities for their residents.
· West Ward Recreation Center in Trenton: this space, utilized on a regular basis by students and residents who live nearby, is in need of beautification. This will be our third project with this community partner. We will be building upon an existing mural.
The 1st Annual Serve-A-Thon held to benefit TCNJ Bonner Center for Civic and Community Engagement can be a great success with everyone’s participation. Help us fundraise $5,000 for our center.
