Community Engaged Learning (CEL) Program
First-Year Experience (FYE)
The First Year Community Engaged Learning (FY CEL) Program brings these missions to life for the newest members of the College community. All First Year (FY) students spend a minimum of 8 hours completing CEL activities with a team of their peers from their floor or FSP (First Seminar Program) course. They typically spend a day learning and serving together in ways that address an unmet need—such as hunger, homelessness or one of many environmental problems. Overall, the CEL program aims to help students to gain more knowledge about important public issues, think critically and inclusively about their society, and apply their talents with others in constructive ways. As a result, it is a key component of TCNJ’s Liberal Learning Program—which emphasizes scholarly growth, human inquiry and civic responsibility.
