Facing Facebook

Many parents unfamiliar with the emerging culture of social networking are baffled by the idea of Facebook that has integrated itself so quickly in their children's lives. Students from Janet Mazur's freshman seminar "Living in a Virtual World" took time at Community Fest to educate parents and other non-users about Facebook. They explained everything from what it means to "poke" another user or give a bumper sticker to safety measures students can take to protect their privacy. The students set up a table at Community Fest called "Facing Facebook," where they used posters, handouts and lap tops to help illustrate how Facebook works.
